  2. Gender roles greatly affects sexism in our school's environment. In our gym class, there is misconception about the woman's gender behavior and how it affects how they play the sport baseball. For example, our gym teacher thinks their weak, can't hit a home run, probably won't even make it to first base, and need an extra 2 strikes. Because it's not factual and there are stronger women than men they are given an upper hand and the game is ultimately unfair. What's really surprising is their are some dudes that probably need the rest of the gym period to actually make contact with the ball, and can't even make it half way to first base but they share the same label as every other guy that being there strong, fast and don't deserve any special treatment.

  3. I agree with the position eric takes on this question, and agree with the example he uses to show it. I believe there are some actions that can be seen as sexist behavior and in a way it is a bit sexist, why should girls be given extra chances at anything or given special conditions if we are all equal and they can do anything men can do? So all in all i feel like there is always going to be small hits of sexism in schools especially in gym and in our school probably the construction classes, because i always here the stories of girls noth doing anything and getting 90 or 95's easy.

  5. Edwin Burd's Response:
The majority of individuals in our society generally view the male race as being superior to females, in that most men are characterized as being "stronger and bigger" in terms of their physical structure. This fact however, requires years of research and supervision, so it is therefore often a misjudged comment by many people. We can agree though, that men usually possess larger and more broader shoulders than women, due to their testosterone level and genetics, although they are in no way more intelligent or have a higher level of strength than women. Our Culture has unfortunately adapted to the fact of men having
more authority than women, and we often display acts of sexism when engaging in several different activities. For instance, when playing tennis, I was often in a situation where it was the boys against girls and the women were given a larger safety zone than the men. The instructor decided to utilize this strategy because he believed that the the velocity at which the boys hit the tennis ball was far to fast for the girls to hit back, so he increased the area in which the ball would be considered "legal" or "in" for the women. This decision can be considered sexist, although that does not make our tennis coach, or any other person who may have done a similar act, resentful towards the female race. Events such as these often occur in our school environment when the students are placed in an academic competition with each other in terms of gender, and the females are usually given extra help or are assisted additionally by the teachers. Overall, gender roles in our community and schools have a negative effect towards our civilization, in that the constant thought of women requiring further assistance is inadequate, as many females across the
globe possess skills that at times, surpass those of men.

  6. I believe that gender roles affect the school's environment that we learn in because their are teachers in this world that like one gender more than the other. For example: a teacher who teaches math only like the female gender in the class, so she decides to give them a higher class average than the males in the class. Our society should be able to give men and women equality and not favoritism. Like Adrian said why should girls be given and extra chance or not to be stronger than men, even though women are able to do anything that men can do.Gender behaviors will always affect our schools due to the fact that girls are getting points for doing nothing or a teacher liking them more than guys. It gives off a negative effect in our society that women need a lot of help or need to be the perfect ones.

  7. The role of genders greatly influence the School's environment. Teachers often give females extra chances in many activities especially sports. As I recall from Middle School, when males and females are in opposition to each other in academic sports such as baseball, lacrosse, or tennis, teachers tend to assist and help the females in some way. From giving the females extra chances to having teachers intervene and participate in opposition to the males. Why can't people treat females as equals and be given the same opportunity as males? Therefore, the role of genders immensely affects the environment we learn in today due to sexism and presumed behavior.

  8. Gender roles greatly play a role in the school environment, in that students are being indoctrinated that the female is inferior. In history classes we tend to learn about males and how they were the leading figures running the country. All of the presidents so far have been men and this is being reinforced in history class. This causes people to believe that men are independent, assertive, and competitive while females are supposed to be passive, sensitive, and supportive. Girls have grown up reading children books that have princesses waiting to be saved by their prince. This discourages them from taking on professions like mechanics or construction. For example, when I look around my school there is mostly males. The school offers two fields, engineering and construction which are not considered female interests. The division of the way females are being treated differently is apparent when they are in gym classes. When playing sports the teachers don’t ever pick a female for a goalie as often they would a male. Also they have to force the team captains to pick the girls. In addition to this the team captains they pick aren’t usually girls. The gym teachers are being sexist because men are considered to be better in sports, so they would think of picking a male first rather than a female. There is obviously a difference in the way women and men are treated in school. Females are treated as inferior even though they can be equal to or surpass a male in academics or sports.

  9. I believe that gender role plays a big part in our school enviroment. Women are not treat the same as boys are when compared to sports. Women are always looked down on as weak and is not able to play some sports as guys can. An example of this was when our class was playing gym oneday and we were playing Baseball. Our gym teacher gave the girls four strikes while the boys had three. This shows how girls are looked down upon. By the gym teacher doing this , it tells that he thinks girls cannot play as well as boys do in baseball. Even if the girls can play the sport well as the boys can they are always looked down at.

  10. I believe that gender roles plays an important part of our school's environment because there's always misconception about the female gender and their ability to succeed in math courses. Most people always favor the male gender because they believe that they can excel better than the female gender. It said that there are statistics to prove that but I don't believe that it's fair to judge the female gender based on statistics because they deserve a chance to prove themselves.

  11. Francois's response:
I would like to expose sexism other than in the physical (gym). There has been several events, a teacher has stated the following "I would rather teach girls because boys tend to be foolish and not as smart as women." This is both sexist against males but also inappropriate for the school environment. With such opinions of our educators, we the student would see sexism as they view it. The educators will pass the ignorance to their pupils and they will pass it down the line as well. Its a never ending affect, which hopefully will be acknowledge soon.

  14. thank you mr. benitez and i will.

I believe the society we live in currently is flawed with the idea that men are more superior to women. As far as our current education, i believe males and females act in the same way towards their education. Males and females both work hard towards a well earned education. Also, females and males work hard towards being successful, atheletically. One example is the sports teams that we have in our school at them moment. There is a girl's basketball team and a boy's basketball team. All of the girls and boys that play for their respective teams are equally fit to play the sport. The boys and girls are all qualified to play the exact same sport. In education, males and females are given equal treatment for learning a subject, but the opposite genders continue problems which is that of superiority to the other race. Overall, both genders are treated equally, but one wants to dominate the other, and as far as education, we are equal.

  15. Gender roles greatly affect behavior in school. For example, most student/school faculty think that physical education if for more of the male gender because of the vigorous activities involved with that class. The physical educations may give the female gender a "second try" or another chance but not to the male gender. Secondly, the genders are split up into two teams, such as the Boys basketball team and the Girls basketball team, but why are they split up? Are the people who make those rules sexist? In education, we should remain equal so that the students can make the best of both worlds (genders).
